Downtown Parking Signage

Milwaukee, WI— The Downtown Neighbors Association of Milwaukee (DNA MKE) is spearheading an initiative to make downtown parking less confusing. The association, which was organized to focus on the needs of residents in downtown Milwaukee, DNA MKE has responded to member feedback about the confusing messaging on City of Milwaukee on-street parking signs in the central business district.

Although parking is free on Saturday for a two hour window and all day on Sunday, street parking signs do not clearly convey this message. That means many people unnecessarily feed parking meters in fear of parking tickets or worse yet – avoid coming downtown. DNA-MKE in partnership with the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works, has now addressed this problem with 2,000 “FREE” stickers that the city has installed on parking signs throughout the downtown area to clarify that there is no charge for on-street parking on Saturday.
My wife and I often walk downtown. On Saturdays, it’s impossible not to see people putting money into parking meters or staring at the signs trying to figure out if they should. With this simple change, residents, business patrons and all downtown visitors will now know that parking on Saturday is free. That’s another good reason to spend some time downtown,” said Claude Krawczyk, DNA MKE President.

The Downtown Neighbors Association of Milwaukee, Inc. is a membership organization of residents working with business representatives in downtown Milwaukee’s three neighborhoods: East Town, Westown, and the Historic Third Ward.  DNA MKE focuses on residents and residential concerns to bring a united force to downtown Milwaukee. Whether it’s working with Aldermen and city officials to bring about quality of live improvements or talking to Business Improvement Districts about the needs of the area, DNA MKE provides a unified voice to present another side to an ever-evolving story of Downtown Milwaukee.
